THE RULES
Urban Shadows is a story game. This means many different things to many different people but essentially what it boils down to is a role-playing game that focuses on a characters motivations, struggles and above all else, choice.
When you create a protagonist to introduce into Urban Shadows you're making a statement to the people participating in the story with you. This is a facet of the world I want to see explored, here is my struggle and here are my challenges. When you combine that statement with those around you, you create a story and an experience that can have infinite possibilities and will always be unique.
Urban Shadows accomplishes this goal by using the ground-breaking game engine introduced in D. Vincent Baker's award-winning rpg Apocalypse World. Apocalypse World, and Urban Shadows by extension, has a core code by which all play is meant to circulate, "Play to find out what happens". Players and their Master of Ceremonies (MC for short) come into this world they create collaboratively and tell stories all their own. No one knows where the streets end or how it will end, the enjoyment comes from discovering this together. Will you love? Lose? Bleed and cry? Will you be taken by the darkness or becomes it's willing servant? These are the questions you will answer, and I envy you learning the answers.
You can learn more about Apocalypse World at it's website. apocalypse-world.com I encourage you to do so.
